We have an exciting opportunity for Director of Software Development based near Austin, Texas.  Were looking for a passionate team member with ideas that are unconventional, fresh, and smart. You have a hands-on get it done attitude and never hesitate to roll up your sleeves in an instant to show a team member how its done.


Youll be a part of the leadership team at an early-stage, which means you can have an opportunity to build a world-class development team.  We are looking for a hands-on senior Director to provide leadership and manage a small team of developers as they design and build a highly integrated eCommerce platform with advanced 3D configurators and Open Source PHP applications as the foundation, but is highly enhanced in ways that improve conversion ratios and profitability.  


You will have the opportunity to:


    • Lead continuous delivery of world class eCommerce capabilities and deliver a cutting edge interactive and engaging user experience.
    • Establish technical strategy, architecture, and roadmap for global expansion and allow for next generation capabilities.
    • Execute in a hands-on capacity alongside the team on projects and day-to-day technical work.


The ideal candidate has been a full-stack developer who enjoys taking on a variety of roles including developer and project manager depending on the immediate needs of the team. The ideal candidate will have 5+ years of overall work experience with some time in technology leadership roles (management team of a startup, Lead, Senior Architect etc.).   Candidate must be highly analytical with an ability to drive innovation. The candidate should be able to work in a fast-paced agile environment where people relationships are important.


In terms of the performance and personal competencies required for the position, we would highlight the following:


Minimum Qualifications:


  • Experience building scalable enterprise software, particularly web-based and customer-facing applications. Experience with PHP and modern web technologies is a must.
    • Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or related field
    • Self-motivated and results oriented
    • Experience defining system architectures and exploring technical feasibility tradeoffs
    • Desire and ability to learn quickly and be part of a world-class team
    • Strong proficiency in Vanilla JavaScript
    • 3+ years professional experience in software development
    • 3+ years of experience with PHP
    • 3+ years of experience using source control management tools (SVN or Git)
    • Experience using Agile/Scrum methodologies to iterate quickly on product changes
    • Solid understanding of web development and client-server technologies
    • Excellent problem solving, debugging and troubleshooting skills


Preferred Qualifications:


  • eCommerce experience is strongly 
  • Bonus points for familiarity with one or more JavaScript game engines and libraries (PlayCanvas, CreateJS, Three.JS, Phaser, CocoJS)
  • Experience defining system architectures and exploring technical feasibility tradeoffs
  • Knowledge of professional software engineering practices & best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations
  • 3+ years of exposure to building API clients

  • Expertise in planning and executing cross-functional projects
  • Takes leadership in creatively applying technology to formulate innovative solutions for the ecommerce business
  • Ability to lead multiple projects on issues of high complexity that require knowledge across multiple technical areas and business units
  • Sets aggressive and measurable goals/objectives
  • Inspire and motivate others through delivery of vision and ability to articulate and disseminate group direction
