This job is expired and may no longer be accepting applications.

At ChappellRoberts, ideas are the currency we trade. We are currently seeking a Web Developer with at least 5-10 years experience, a knack for problem solving, and a passion for writing beautiful code, to join our team. You must be adaptable, resourceful, and able to independently develop effective solutions to problems.

We're not looking for a developer who wants to be handed a PSD file they've never seen before and told to go turn it into code. We want you to be part of our creative team – collaborating from start to finish with our UX/UI team on how a website will look and function, making recommendations along the way for the best technology to put behind it all. At ChappellRoberts, our creative team and development team are one in the same.

In this role, it's important to know that you'll be the sole developer, at least for now, as we continue to grow. While we have an awesome team of freelance developers to help you manage the workload when its needed, we only need one full-time developer right now.

Here's what you'll be doing:

  • Working on a Mac.

  • Hand-coding fully-responsive websites; campaign microsites and landing pages; rich-media web banners or HTML-based emails.

  • Collaborating directly with designers, freelance developers, strategists, account executives, and clients from initial ideation to project completion.

  • Making recommendations for the best technical solutions to meet a development challenge.

  • Helping others around you learn and grow.

  • Implement, customize and maintain content-management systems and train both clients and internal agency staff how to use them

  • Estimate time and hard-costs to complete assigned projects

Here's what we need you to know:

  • HTML5 + CSS3 (SASS)

  • Javascript/ES6

  • Jquery and other Javascript libraries/frameworks (experience with Vue is a major plus)

  • OOP PHP (experience with Laravel is a major plus)

  • Experience working in and building custom themes for PHP-based content-management systems. Special bonus points if you have experience with a CMS that is NOT WordPress — Statamic, October, CraftCMS or another great one we've never heard of before

  • Comfortable converting Sketch and Photoshop files to code

  • Solid understanding and ability to write code for responsive design

  • Solid understanding of web animation (CSS/JS)

  • Experience with Bootstrap

  • Ability to conduct thorough cross browser/device testing and debugging

  • Understanding of on-page SEO best practices

  • Understanding of HTML email best practices

  • Have a comfort level managing Linux servers (experience with Laravel Forge is a major plus)

  • Experience with build automation (Gulp/Grunt/Webpack)

  • Comfortable developing in a LAMP environment

  • Comfortable managing Linux servers

  • Familiarity using Git/BitBucket for source control

  • Being comfortable on a command line (terminal)

  • Familiarity with WCAG 2.0 accessibility standards and ability to write code that adheres to an A- and AA-level of compliance.

And a couple more really important things we need:

  • Reliability.

  • Humility.

  • Resourcefulness.

  • A generally positive attitude when you walk into the office every day.

  • Willingness to put in some extra time when a project calls for it. (It's not often, but it happens.)

  • A strong desire to continuously learn and stay on top of emerging technologies

Here's what we offer:

  • Money

  • 12 paid holidays, including the full week between Christmas and New Years

  • 13 PTO days (18 PTO days after you've been here for five years)

  • Competitive insurance benefits including health, dental, vision and life.

  • Simple IRA with agency-matching

  • An annual stipend of $500 to spend on professional development

  • A cool place to work in the heart of Ybor City

  • Beer

Here's what we need from you if you're interesting in working here:

  • A resume

  • A cover letter telling us why you're perfect for this job

  • At least 5 online work samples illustrating the qualifications listed above

  • A willingness to complete our online Developer Coding Challenge (from the comfort of your own home) and prove that you meet the technical qualifications listed above.
