Job Title: Senior Web Developer Specialist Grade: PS-3 Annual Pay : $76,509.20/YR


Location: Washington, DC


Purpose:



Responsible for the design, development, coding, and support of applications, online tools, and websites for SEIU's Digital Strategy team. This includes production of graphics, flash animation, online advertising, email and social media; leading strategy, planning and design to implementation, testing, and optimization; managing web analytics and trends to optimize existing channels and enhance community engagement and acquisition.



PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: (Any one position may not include all of the specific duties and responsibilities listed.   • Write well designed, testable, efficient code by using best software development practices to support acquisition and engagement, and enhance user experience on SEIU's digital platforms at the direction of SEIU's Digital Strategy Team Director and Managers.

  • Manage design, overall architecture, quality, and responsiveness of SEIU's digital platforms/tools, and collaborate with creative and digital strategy teams to design and launch new features using (X)HTML/HTML5, CSS3, ES6, PHO, JQuery and other JavaScript libraries, Adobe Creative Suite, Flash, and non-WYSIWYG coding environment.

  • Develop back-end web development solutions and functionality to support front-end web design.

  • Develop reusable processes and frameworks that shorten implementation time, and ensure quality.

  • Work to integrate data from various back-end services and databases to build personalized engagement on SEIU's digital platforms

  • Report on website analytics to help inform SEIU's communications and advocacy outreach strategies and is responsible for web and digital SEO, event tracking, A/B testing, and data analysis

  • Lead internal and external web development, API integration, and UX projects under direction of SEIU's Digital Strategy Director and Managers.

  • Provide input on overall digital strategy, campaign planning, UX design and post-launch optimization

  • Work closely with Design Team to support creation of graphics for email, web, social media, online advertising, and video to maintain SEIU brand integrity

  • Lead on social media integration on SEIU's digital platforms and design and develop tools to enhance SEIU's digital presence

  • Work closely with SEIU's Digital Strategy Senior Digital Production Manager to produce interactive video, online advertising, and support launch of “Live” Online Videos

  • Serve as primary back up to Digital Strategy Front End Web Developer I



Contacts:


Include SEIU and affiliate staff, consultants, vendors, and other experts on technology and communications issues.



Direction and Decision Making:


This position reports to the Digital Strategy Director



Education and Experience:


Bachelor Degree in Computer Science or related field is required. Must have minimum of five (5) years' experience in design, development, documentation, and implementation of web-based applications demonstrated through a strong portfolio; experience building successful consumer or advocacy digital platforms to support online engagement and acquisition campaigns; rapid theming experience in open source CMS software (Wordpress, Movable Type) and experience with Final Cut/video editing required. Portfolio must include examples of coding, web layout, web graphics, flash ads/promotional elements, and theming of content management systems (such as Wordpress or Movable Type); strong design and coding skills proven in a fast-paced production environment.


Certification in web design/development preferred.


Or, a combination of education and experience that would provide for the following knowledge, skills and abilities:




  • Proven experience creating and developing high-quality online properties.

  • Proven experience using Google Analytics and other analytics platforms for web based platforms

  • Knowledge of and competency in proficient building of W3C compliant XHTML/CSS websites.



  • Knowledge of and competency in such design software as Adobe Creative Suite, Photoshop, Illustrator, and Flash among others.

  • Knowledge of Search Engine Optimization (SEO) techniques for maximizing web visibility throughout design process.

  • Knowledge of interface design for web applications; including social media.

  • Knowledge of building online audiences and communities.

  • Strong knowledge of and competency in UX principles, and good understanding of current and emerging web technologies.

  • Ability to work as part of a team and independently, and handle multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.

  • Ability to continually develop skills related to use of rapidly changing technology and communications best practices.

  • Ability to quickly adapt design skills to a wide range of non-standard applications including commercial content management systems and social networking sites.

  • Understanding and implementation of security and data protection.

  • Highly experienced with back-end programming languages {Ex: PHP, Python, Ruby, Java, .NET, JavaScript etc.}

  • Proficient experience using {{Ex: advanced JavaScript libraries and frameworks such as AngularJS, KnockoutJS, BackboneJS, ReactJS, DurandalJS etc.}}.

  • Development experience for both mobile, tablet and desktop.

  • Understanding of server-side languages including {{such as Jade, EJS, Jinja, etc.}}.

  • Experience with cloud message APIs and usage of push notifications.

  • Ability to meet deadlines, must deliver prototypes and final mock-ups in a timely manner.



Physical Requirements:


Work is generally performed in an office setting. Long and extended hours and travel may be required (up to 35%).


Probationary period: Thirty six (36) calendar weeks.
