About the role

We are hiring a Senior Software Engineer to lead the company's technical decisions and direction in delivering a world-class experience for our audiences and contributors. This is a role for a true self-starter who will have the unique opportunity to build out the team as s/he sees fit. The ideal candidate will be eager to contribute individually as well as lead and mentor the team as it grows. You will work closely with our Co-founder/Chief Product Officer and Associate Product Manager and collaborate with other internal teams to help drive our business strategy and mission. Our preference is for this role to be based out of our Boston HQ, but we are open to remote.

You will:

  • Primarily function as an individual contributor and eventually grow, lead, and mentor an engineering team (make additional hire(s) within 6-12 months)

  • Inherit two small-medium sized Drupal codebases (HeroCampus.com - content management system; InfluenceHerCollective.com - influencer & campaign management platform)

  • Establish technical best practices for software development and delivery

  • Write and deploy clean, scalable code for backend and frontend site components that deliver beautiful authoring and reading experiences for our users

  • Work closely with product management team to estimate work, and clarify specifications

  • Set and lead team roadmap to address refactoring/replatforming, scalability, performance, security, tech debt, and general maintenance

  • Provide updates and help guide company tech strategy in monthly department head meetings, or as needed

  • Monitor industry best practices, trends, and applicable technologies

Qualifications

You have:

  • 5+ years working as a software engineer on consumer-facing web applications

  • Confidence working within full stack, with emphasis on back-end

  • Experience with PHP, Javascript/jQuery, MySQL, Git

  • Familiarity with Drupal, Wordpress, or other content management systems

  • Strong problem-solving skills and bias to think like an architect

  • Strong communication skills and ability to clearly describe technical problems, best practices, and your approach to non-technical colleagues

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team

  • Passion for Her Campus’s mission, products, and users
